It was used at once to plug in lights when grilling outside at night, but now I have a traveltrailer which I would like to hook up constant power when parked in the yard so my wife and I can get away (children) for quiet time. At the elec.box the breaker is a 20amp but the trailer has to be a 60amp or it will keep tripping the present breaker. Can I simple just change the breaker at the box and do I have to change the wire thats there now to some other size? The wire there now is the 12/3 (yellow color wire) THANKYOU FOR ANY HELP FROM ANY ELECTRAINS OUT THERE.

You need to change the wire and the receptacle outlet. If you just change the breaker, the house may burn down. A 60 amp circuit will need a 60 amp receptacle outlet and number 6 copper wire. And usually the 60 amp circuit will be a 2 pole 240/120 volt 4 wire circuit. I highly recommend you hire a qualified electrician to install this for you.

the outlet has a 20 amp threshold…do not exceed this…..if you want to make it a 60 the breaker will need to be changed along with the wire…thicker guage…60 is a lot…most older houses may only have 100 amp service to the houe….so proportioning electricity and maximum capacity into the house from the street has to be considered…even if it's 50…a 6/3 wire with ground will work in the copper typre…if aluminum wire is used #4 will be needed

You MUST also change the wire..60 amps though a 12/3 wire will over heat!

no u can not change the breaker doing so will cause that 12/3 romax to heat up to the point where it will cause a fire. if you need to get 60 amps for that trailer you need to install a outlet that is rated such.. however 60 amps is quite unusual normaly it would be a 50 amp which would require 6gauge romax check you local hardware store to compare the plug to a 50 amp outlet you might have missed read the markings

UPGRADE,UPGRADE,UPGRADE. I AM BY NO MEANS AN ELECTRICIAN, BUT I BELIEVE THAT CALLS FOR UPGRADE TO THE BOX AND MAIN SUPPLY LINE IN ORDER TO HANDLE THE EXTRA AMPS. THE WIRES ARE PROBABLY RATED FOR THE LOWER AMP BREAKER AND THAT MUCH ADDITIONAL AMPERAGE ON A CONSTANT IS MORE THAN THE CIRCUIT CAN HANDLE. I WOULD CONTACT AN ELECTRICIAN BEFORE DOING ANY TYPE OF CHANGING THAT REQUIRES GOING INTO THE BOX ITSELF . ZZZZZZZZZAP!

I can't imagine what you would need to run in your trailer to use 60A. What do you need for quiet time, a TV and maybe an air conditioner and a few lights? Hardly 60A. You may be exceeding 20A, but you probably just have a 60A head on your trailer feeder cable. 20A circuits are rated for 1500 watts, but will actually take more to trip, and a typical A/C unit on a trailer might pull 8-12 amps, which on 120v is just under 1500 watts maximum. Keep the lights and TV off and enjoy each other's company. That doesn't take much power.

Please keep yourself safe - If you have to ask this question with the wire described you really need a professional to come out and look. Tripping breakers mean you are exceeding the rating for the wires. They are not there to inconvience you - they are there to keep you safe.

Campers/Trailers are designed for electrical hookup to a 50/60 amp service depending on the age of the unit. To do this properly you need at least #6 USE cable , a 50/60 amp disconnect and an entrance cable to your trailer/ camper to match it's configuration of plug in or connection to disconnect, you will also need a 60 amp breaker to feed the disconnect. The NEC is QUITE clear on this, If you just want to sit in the camper , Tom was right, just DON"T use any power.

Don't change the breaker or upgrade the circuit unless you are going to run an electric heater or stove out there. 20A is plenty for a few lights, some soft music and a blender. Ignore these burn your house types and go to an RV shop and get a plug converter between the 60A RV plug and your standard house receptical and save the $200+ to buy some wine etc.
